A Lancaster-based film company which won three major awards at an international festival for an action thriller shot entirely in Nigeria has now received further awards and accolades.
Son of the Soil was honoured for Best Film and Best International Showcase at the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) in Ghana in 2025 and its chief executive, Chee Keong Cheung, scooped the Best Director award.
Now founder of Action XTreme Chee Keong Cheung who produced and directed the action thriller said: “Son of the Soil, the film I directed and produced in Nigeria reached No. 1 in Nigeria on the Netflix Top 10 charts within 24 hours of release (picked up by Netflix Africa).
“Son of the Soil also had a US theatrical release in the US with Q&A’s I attended in New York and LA along with the lead actor.
“Son of the Soil has also been selected to screen at the International Black & Diversity Film Festival in Ajax in Canada and has picked up 12 Nominations and most recently was awarded Best Feature and Best Performance for the lead actor Razaaq Adoti at the Black Film Summit in Illinois.”
Action Xtreme are launching an exciting new masterclass series spotlighting leading Nigerian screen talent.
