Kannywood Veteran Mallam Nata’ala Battles Cancer, Seeks Help

A popularly Kannywood actor, Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, has appealed for financial assistance as he continues his battle with cancer, a condition he said he has lived with for nearly two years.

In a video shared widely on social media, the actor, who became popular for his role in the Dadin Kowa series on Arewa 24, revealed that he has been receiving treatment for the illness for the past one year and seven months.

Mr. Yakubu admitted that the treatment has drained his resources despite support from friends, clerics, and colleagues in the film industry.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, especially groups of clerics, the Arewa 24 team and Kannywood Vanguard,” he said.

“I am calling on anyone I have wronged to please forgive me. I need help. I have to pay ₦250,000 every three weeks for an injection. Even the hospital bed costs ₦51,000. Please help me. May Allah help us all.”

The veteran actor, who hails from Yobe State, once told BBC Hausa in 2021 that he started acting in 1986 and has written more scripts than he has featured in as an actor.

Mr. Yakubu is married to three wives and has 10 children.
