Headies Alerts Police, Mulls Disqualification Over Portable’s Threat To Co-Nominees

Organisers of the Headies Awards in Nigeria have alerted Police over a threat issued by fast-rising Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

The Headies have also warned of the possibility of disqualifying the singer for threatening to kill his co-nominees for the 2022 edition.

This was disclosed in a statement on the awards’ verified Instagram page on Friday.

The controversial singer had taken to his Instagram page to make a threat to whoever wins the 2022 Headies Award over him in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories he was nominated in.

According to the controversial singer, if he fails to win, he will kill whoever beats him to the awards.

Displeased with Portable’s statement, the Headies Award in a swift statement, said: “We have notified the Nigeria police of Mr. Okikiola’s actions to fellow nominees. It also demanded an immediate retraction of the social media clip in which the threat was made as well as a written apology to nominees in both categories and to The Headies.

“Should Mr. Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law.

“The general public is hereby implored to disregard the video and stop the dissemination of same in the public space.”

Portable has been involved in several controversies since he became popular in late 2021 through his hit single Zazoo.
