Guinness World Records (GWR) has finally announced that Hilda ‘Baci’ Bassey broke and set a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual in the world.
Hilda accomplished an impressive feat by surpassing Indian chef, Lata Tondon, who held the record after cooking for 87 hours, by cooking for 100 hours from May 11 to 15.
In a video posted on their social media page, GWR said that Hilda fulfilled all the conditions after reviewing the evidence. One of the conditions is that there must be at least two items being cooked and prepared at any time, and the number, name and weight of each item must be submitted with evidence. Hilda fulfilled each of these conditions.
She had five minutes of rest after every hour. There was a miscalculation with Hilda’s rest break, so they were not able to announce the 100 hours claimed. So her hours was reduced, thereby formally setting a new record with 93 hours and 11 minutes.
To set a new record of the longest cooking marathon, Hilda was originally set to cook for 96hrs, but later extended her goal to a 100 hours.
High profile Nigerians who visited Hilda included Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; Lead Pastor of Harvester International, Bolaji Idowu; Nigerian artistes, Tiwa Savage, Tim Godfrey and Ice Prince.
The former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo also called to cheer her up during the Cook-a-thon. Hilda received a huge support fan base from Nigerians who trooped to the venue of the cooking competition, while she trended throughout the entire duration of the Cook-a-thon.
