Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, made history on the first night of the South African Music Awards (SAMA), by winning the ‘Rest of Africa’ category with his 2019 album, ‘A Good Time’.
With the honour, the hitmaker becomes the first Nigerian to win the South African award adjudged the biggest awards show in South African music.
Davido’s AGT grabbed the award in the category ahead of popular nominee and Zimbabwe’s Sha Sha, Mozambique’s Isabel Novella, West African rapper PsychoYP and fellow Nigerian smooth singer WurlD.
Released in 2019, the 17-track album has recorded over a billion streams on all platforms, according to Columbia Records UK. It features guest artistes such as Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Popcaan and Naira Marley, among others.
The award ceremony held virtually over one week from August 3rd to 7th.
