The Guinness World Records (GWR) has disclosed that it has received more than 1,500 applications from intending record breakers in Nigeria within two months.
Recall that TCN reported how the record body recently pleaded with Nigerians to ensure that their record-breaking attempts are confirmed and approved before embarking on them.
Attempts by Nigerians to break world records gained extra momentum after Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, was certified as the record holder for the longest cook-a-thon by an individual in May.
Ever since her remarkable feat, a significant number of Nigerians have jumped on the trend.
According to GWR, Hilda Baci’s successful attempt at breaking the record for the longest cooking record served as a catalyst for the surge in number of applications.
“The attention and excitement that Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon gained was certainly an incentive for many Nigerians to consider attempting a Guinness World Records title.
“Since her record attempt, there has been a spike in applications from Nigeria, particularly for marathon records.
“We have received over 1,500 record applications from Nigeria since the start of May,” the record body said.
Individuals like Ekiti-based Chef Dammy, Ondo-based Chef Adeyeye Adeola, Oluwatobi Kufeji and Joyce Ijeoma are some of the Nigerians who have embarked on the record-breaking journey after Hilda.
