The nominees for the 2025 BET Awards were announced on Thursday, with Nigerian artistes achieving recognition across major categories

The BET Awards are an American award show established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate black entertainers and other minorities in music, film, sports, and philanthropy.

Kendrick Lamar leads the way with 10 nominations, including ‘Album of the Year,’ ‘Best Male Hip Hop Artist’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ categories.

He was followed by fellow hip-hop artistes Doechii, Future, GloRilla, and Drake with six nominations each, while Metro Boomin has five and SZA and The Weeknd have four apiece.

Ayra Starr scored three nods in ‘Best Female R&B/Pop Artist’, ‘Best New Artist’, and ‘Best International Act’ categories, while Tems secured two nominations in the ‘BET Her’ category for her soulful and empowering songs ‘Burning’ and ‘Hold On’.

Other Nigerian artistes dominated the list, with Shallipopi, Burna Boy, and Rema all earning nominations.

Winners will be announced June 9 in a ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, live on BET.
