Medicine Man just won Best Film, Best Scriptwriter, Best Actor and Best Actress (from 13 Nominations) at Lake International Pan-African Film Festival (LIPFF) 2022 last weekend
in Nakuru.
Set in Embu and shot in the Kiembu language, a Daughter of the County and its Executive Producer – Betty Kathungu-Furet, says: “We’re so thrilled to have received 13
Nominations at LIPFF 2022, and to have won 4. What’s more thrilling, however, is that
our peers at the Festival loved the Film! We’re now looking forward to Screening it in Nairobi, enroute to Nigeria.”
Medicine Man, like Bangarang, has been Selected for the fifth Kano Indigenous Languages of Africa Film Market and Festival (KILAF), from 22nd to 27th of November 2022, in the ancient Nigerian city of Kano. The story of how a lone Doctor (Pish Kago) overcomes the odds to Redeem the Embu community he so loves – but a community that is deeply shackled by witchcraft and
enslaved by the ‘Power’ of a Warlock (Sam Ukavi) is the attraction in this 120-minute thrilling
Drama.
The MyMovies.Africa™ Watch Party also features a very audience-interactive
Conversation with award-winning Betty Kathungu-Furet (Producer), Edijoe Mwaniki
(Writer & Producer), Simiyu Barasa (Director), Pish Kago (Actor) and Sammy Ukavi
(Actor).
“We are very proud of the Cast & Crew of Medicine Man. Making a vernacular film for a national and international audience takes real conviction”, says Co-Founder, Content Director & Chief Executive Officer of YAKWETU™ – Ms. Trushna Buddhdev-Patel. “And not only has Medicine Man won awards, but we recently Licensed the Film to Qatar Airways and Oman Air – proving that Language isn’t a barrier, if you make a quality film
