The Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS), Nigeria’s collective management organization for cinematograph films, in conjunction with the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), the nation’s agency charged with the responsibility for matters affecting copyright in Nigeria and other Collective Management Organisations is holding a major stakeholders’ event on Thursday, July 14, 2022 for copyright owners in Nigeria and users of copyright works in the broadcast, hotels and similar establishments, transport sectors and all other sectors deploying works protected by copyright in their facilities and premises.

This very important event, which will hold at the Abora Suites, Eko Hotels in Lagos will be a gathering of top movie makers and actors in Nigeria and top executives of television stations, hotels, restaurants, transport companies, etc. from across the country.
In a statement made available to TCN and signed by AVRS’ Acting General Manager, Mrs Olubukola Adeyemi, the event is being organised by the Nigerian Copyright Commission under the leadership of Dr. John Asein and will also be attended by top government officials of the NCC and representatives of the National Broadcasting Commission, the Federal Government agency that regulates broadcast in Nigeria, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation as well the Nigeria Police.

According to the Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr. John Asein, “the Commission is interested in the balanced and sustainable use of the copyright system to create wealth and engender growth in the creative sector of the economy. To this end, it is concerned about the challenges faced by right owners, users of copyright works and the CMOs that manage the rights, including the acrimonious issues that often arise from licensing arrangements.”

The NCC DG further said, “our objective is to promote win-win outcomes for right owners and users of their works.”

In his words, chairman of AVRS, Mr. Mahmood Ali-Balogun said, “AVRS is a responsible organisation and is willing to engage our esteemed users in an atmosphere of mutual understanding for the greater good of those we represent. We are therefore happy to work with the NCC in achieving this objective, which we believe would be a win-win situation for our members and affiliates and the users.”
