Afrobeats Is Going Through Weird Phase -Shizz

Nigerian record producer and disc jockey, Oluwaseyi Akerele aka Shizzi, has weighed in on the current phase of Afrobeats.

The award-winning music producer, who made fame recording several songs with Davido, recently submitted that Afrobeats has been going through a weird phase.

In his words, “Afrobeats has been going through a weird phase in the past 2 years,” he opined.

Shizzi went on to submit that only a few of the mostly churned-out songs resonate with the themes and ideas of Afrobeats.

“So many songs come out every day, but only a few truly resonate.”

Shizzi joins a long list of Nigerian music aficionados and connoisseurs who are of the opinion that most of the newly released Afrobeats songs have the same sound.

Another connoisseur opined that the music genre is saturated. “Afrobeats is oversaturated right now, and everyone’s dropping, but few are connecting. Quality > virality. We need more timeless vibes, less TikTok bait,” he said.
