Afrobeat pioneer and legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has again been nominated alongside 16 other acts for induction into the Rock Hall’s Class of 2022.
This is the second time Fela is being nominated for the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame after narrowly missing out on the 2021 class.
TCN had reported how Fela missed out last year as the Rock & Roll went on to induct Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren and Tina Turner into the 2021 class even though Fela recorded second highest vote.

Despite securing the first runner-up spot with over 500,000 votes, a clause in the inductees selection process which states that there is no correlation between fan votes and subsequent induction denied Fela a place in the 2021 class.
For the 2022 class, the Afrobeat legend is nominated alongside Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Devo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics and Judas Priest, amongst others.
While the Rock Hall inductees are chosen by a committee of over 1,000 musicians, industry members, and historians, fans can participate in the selection process by voting every day at vote.rockhall.com.
The five artists who receive the highest votes among the 17 nominees will be tallied among the other ballots to ultimately decide the Class of 2022.
The Rock and Roll Class of 2022 will be revealed in May 2022, with the ceremony itself taking place at a later date and location this year.
