Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards Names Bovi Ugboma, Nomzamo Mbatha As 2026 Hosts

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress/humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha have been officially announced as the co-hosts for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The prestigious ceremony, celebrating the best in African film and television, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.

A New Era

The pairing of Bovi and Nomzamo marks a significant transition, as they succeed broadcasting legend IK Osakioduwa, who hosted the AMVCAs for 11 editions since its debut in 2013.

The Duo

Organizers described the pairing as a fusion of “a master of wit and narrative” (Bovi) and a “global icon of screen and advocacy” (Nomzamo), aiming to bring high energy and pan-African appeal to the stage.

The event will be held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The 12th edition will feature 32 categories—18 jury-decided, 11 public-voted, and 3 special recognition awards—with nominations led by films such as Gingerrr and The Herd.

The 12th edition also introduces two new award categories: Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa), signalling a broader pan-African direction for the awards. Veteran actress Joke Silva has been announced as Head Judge, and the full list of nominees has already been unveiled.
