Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele’s latest project, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ has achieved a daring milestone, having raked in over ₦122m million in the first weekend of its release, advanced screenings inclusive.
This remarkable feat makes the newly-released film the biggest single-day gross for a Nollywood title.
Released on December 10, the movie officially graced the cinema screens on December 15, 2023, making its mark amid the simultaneous premieres of other Nollywood titles, including Mercy Aigbe’s ‘Ada Omo Daddy.’
The Nigerian Box Office had, in a tweet on Sunday, described the movie as a blessing to the cinemas as it had already amassed over ₦60m between Friday and Saturday.
The movie reportedly grossed more than ₦50 million Sunday alone, bringing its cumulative views to ₦122 million.
“From early tracking, Sunday was much bigger than anticipated with A Tribe Called Judah grossing more than ₦50M on Sunday alone. Biggest opening weekend ever, for a Nollywood film with over ₦113M, and cumm is over ₦122M. Official figures should be out this evening.
“This makes it the “biggest Single-day gross for a Nollywood film. 2nd biggest December release of all time behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. Biggest opening weekend of 2023. 6th biggest opening weekend of all time,” the box office said in a series of tweets.
The film tells the compelling story of a family of boys orchestrating a daring mall heist with the assistance of their mother, only to be met with an unexpected confrontation by armed robbers.
