Former United States President, Barack Obama, in his traditional practice, has shared a list of his favourite songs of the year.
Nigerian superstars Asake, Davido, Tems and Burna Boy made the list which included artistes from the US and other parts of the world.
International Afrobeats songstress, Tems’ ‘Me & U’ made the list alongside Burna Boy’s single ‘Sitting On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage, a song nominated for the Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 2024 Grammys.
Davido’s hit single and arguably one of the biggest songs out of Africa this year, ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys, was also listed together with Asake’s ‘Amapiano’ featuring Olamide. Both songs have also gotten the nod for Best African Song Performance at the 2024 Grammys.
Songs from other artistes from the US and other parts of the world that made the list include Karol G and Shakira’s “TQG”, Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ “I Remember Everything”, Beyoncé (“America Has a Problem,” featuring Kendrick Lamar), Allison Russell (“The Returner”), Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (“Cast Iron Skillet”), Megan Thee Stallion (“Cobra”), and Big Thief (“Vampire Empire”).
Other refined choices include Victoria Monet’s “On My Mama,” Yng Lvcas and Peso Pluma’s “La Bebe” (Remix), Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine, Blondshell’s “Joiner,” and Dave and Central Cee’s “Sprinter”, Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” and Rita Wilson and Keith Urban’s “Crazy Love.”
