The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Ogun State chapter, Wednesday, joined the COVID-19 fight with an awareness campaign and distribution of facemasks to residents.

Led by their Secretary, Comrade Samuel Balogun, popularly known as Sammy B, the musicians held the awareness effort at Ogun West Senatorial District. They visited Ado-Odo/Ota and Yewa South local councils comprising densely populated towns including Ota and Ilaro.

Explaining the reason behind the initiative, Balogun said it was the musician’s little effort to the COVID-19 fight, especially as musicians have large numbers of fans who listen to them.

He noted that through their action, people would be convinced about the reality of Coronavirus and its danger.

The Ogun PMAN Scribe lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his proactive steps in combating the virus and also commended the compliance with COVID-19 protocols in the two local governments visited.

He advised residents to continue to support the state government by complying strictly with all COVID-19 guidelines.

Responding, Chairman, Transition Committee, Ado-Odo/ Ota local government, Lawal Wasiu who received the musicians alongside his Vice, Ramon Wasiu, commended their efforts.

He disclosed that due to the high incidence of the pandemic in the council, Governor Abiodun sited a COVID-19 test laboratory in the area.

He added that the council’s proximity to Lagos has also contributed to the high number of people with the virus and appreciated the musician’s efforts.

“We have been doing tests consistently, and we are happy that the cases are now coming down gradually. This sensitisation effort will go a long way to let people know that COVID-19 is real.”

Earlier, the musicians visited motor parks and markets in Sango Ota, to sensitise people Ogun State has the eighth highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country. There’s a total of 1,050 confirmed cases, out of which 377 are active. 652 persons have been discharged while there are 21 fatalities.
