A call has gone out to artists, producers, designers, start-ups, and students in the media and creative industries from Sub-Saharan Africa who has an innovative project in digital art, immersive realities, video game, animation and music to submit an application to Digital Lab Africa, DLA.

Mentoring and training sessions, residency in France and participation at industry events are some of the mouthwatering prizes up for grabs at the Pan-African acceleration programme dedicated to creative contents which is in its fourth year.

According to a statement from the organizers, the very idea of DLA is to incubate emerging talent by offering them a springboard to fast track the development of their projects with the support and expertise of DLA creative industries ecosystem in France and Sub-Saharan African countries.

“The Digital Lab Africa call for applications is open to anyone from the field of digital content creation: artists, producers, designers, start-ups, SMEs, collectives, students or entrepreneurs, based in Sub-Saharan Africa or a national of a country in this region. The call targets innovative digital content from the perspective of form, storytelling and technologies used in one of these 5 categories: immersive realities, gaming, music, animation and digital art.

The objective of Digital Lab Africa is to provide a springboard to creators and to make their project happen with the support of French & Sub-Saharan African leading companies in the creative industries. DLA is looking for projects at the initial stage of development, innovative in terms of narration, content or technologies. Deadline to apply is 1st of March 2020” the statement read.

Speaking on how the programme will work, the organizers said each selected applicants are granted with a Digital Lab Africa Incubation Pass (as per the category) to fast track the development of their respective project.

“Each of DLA#4 cohort members are mentored by both French and African experts to benefit from the expertise of several ecosystems. Alongside the DLA mentorship program, the cohort has the opportunity to be immersed in those ecosystems thanks to residency programs and learning expeditions within digital clusters and participation at benchmark industry events in France or Sub-Saharan African region” the organizers said in the statement.
