Nigerian filmmaker and CEO of EbonyLife Studios, Mo Abudu, has been appointed a Guest Programmer of the Academy Museum in Los Angeles ahead of the 96th Academy Awards.
The Academy Museum is the official museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a body that has been responsible for the Oscars for many years now.
As part of her duties as Guest Programmer, she is expected to host a series of screenings for movies tagged Echoes Of Africa, exploring “African experiences, triumphs, dreams, and realities through a captivating lineup of films, which will be presented in partnership with the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP).”
An ecstatic Abudu, while announcing the appointment, wrote: “ECHOES OF AFRICA presents a vivid mosaic of African perspectives, capturing the enduring resonance of its cinema.”
She also described the experience as a vital way to get connected to the African narrative.
“An enthralling cinematic odyssey awaits, promising to leave you stirred, enlightened, and intimately connected with Africa’s vibrant essence,” she added.
This appointment is testament to the recognition that Nollywood filmmakers now enjoy on the international scene.
Recall that TCN reported when the Academy invited five new Nigerian film creatives – Richard Mofe-Damijo, Jadesola Osiberu, Kunle Afolayan, Shola Dada and CJ Obasi – to vote for nominees and winners at its 2024 edition.
The 96th Academy Awards is scheduled for March 11, 2024.
