‘The After’, a short film by Nigerian-British photographer, Misan Harriman, has been nominated in the Best Live-Action Short Film category at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The short film stars British actor, David Oyelowo, who himself is also of Nigerian descent.
This comes only a week after the film won in the Best Short Film category at the 2024 African-American Film Critics Award (AAFCA).
‘The After’, which is currently streaming on Netflix, will slug it out with ‘Invincible’ (Vincent René-Lortie and Samuel Caron), ‘Knight of Fortune’ (Lasse Lyskjær Noer and Christian Norlyk), ‘Red, White and Blue’ (Nazrin Choudhury and Sara McFarlane), ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ (Wes Anderson and Steven Rales) for the award.
Actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid announced nominees in all 23 categories live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre on Tuesday.
Christopher Nolan film ‘Oppenheimer’ led the Oscar contenders with 13 nominations while fantasy film ‘Poor Things’, starring Emma Stone, followed with 11. Martin Scorsese’s drama ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ got 10 nominations and blockbuster ‘Barbie’ earned eight nominations.
American television host and comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, will return for the fourth year as host of the biggest night of the film industry.
The 96th Academy Awards is slated to hold on March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
