120 Hours Cook-A-Thon: I Did It For Fun, But I’m Now Ready To Break Hilda Baci’s Record – Chef Dammy

Following the dismissal by the Guinness World Records (GWR) of the marathon cooking embarked upon by Damilola Adeparusi, famously called Chef Dammy, the Ekiti-based lady has declared her intention to give the world record a proper shot soon.

GWR had clarified that it did not receive any application regarding the cookathon that took place earlier this month in Ekiti state.

“We have not received an application for this attempt. Applications can be made via the Guinness World Records website for our records management team to review.

“Once an application is accepted, the record claimant receives a set of detailed guidelines specific to that record category that must be adhered to.

“This also details a list of evidence that must be submitted for our team to verify the record. Guinness World Records maintains a rigorous review process to maintain the integrity of each Guinness World Records title,” GWR said.

Chef Dammy had claimed to have completed a 120-Hour Cook-A-Thon last week Wednesday but there had been continued controversy on social media regarding the exercise with some Nigerians asking if she followed due process.

Her move to clinch the world record-breaking title of non-stop cooking by a single individual had come barely a month after celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, completed her cooking marathon.

While some internet users frowned at the action of Adeparusi, tagging it as sabotage of the achievement of a fellow compatriot, others opined that the young lady should be allowed to cook and showcase her talent.

However, while responding to her critics, Damilola, an undergraduate student of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), said she undertook the cookathon for fun and not an attempt to break the record now held by Hilda Baci.

She explained that the move was driven by her passion for cooking.

“I did it because I enjoy cooking. I didn’t do it to be recognized by the Guinness World Record or to break Hilda Baci’s record,” she told BBC Yoruba in an interview conducted in Yoruba language.
While 26-year-old Hilda Baci has since have her record confirmed by GWR, Damilola has also come out to say she is now preparing for a proper attempt at breaking Hilda’s record after she would have properly register her intent with GWR.
She’s planning a 150-hour cookathon, while soliciting for financial assistance to cover the cost expended on her previous “for fun” attempt.
