Oyo Declares Wednesday Work-Free For Isese Festival

The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day celebration.

This was conveyed through a statement issued on Monday by the secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Adeyemo noted that the governor graciously granted the work-free day to allow traditional religion worshippers and other residents of the state to mark the occasion.

Governor Makinde urged all residents to use the occasion as a time of reflection and prayers for the peace, unity, and stability of Oyo State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

“His Excellency has therefore requested that the occasion be used to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general,” the statement said.

The government also called for wide publicity of the governor’s approval to ensure that residents and civil servants across the state are duly informed.

“Kindly give His Excellency’s approval, as conveyed, the widest publicity it deserves,” the statement added.

Isese Day, which is observed annually and dedicated to the celebration of the cultural heritage, values and traditions of the Yoruba people, has become a recognised holiday in several Southwest states.
