The Orokere-Amuro community in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has celebrated its annual cultural day, emphasizing cultural preservation and community development.

The Orokere Amuro Welfare Association (OWA) and Orokere Traditional Council, organized the December 26, 2025 event, drawing attendees from across the community, including government officials, politicians, and business leaders.

In his welcome address, The OWA National President, Comrade Olusegun Peter, urged attendees to support the N100 million Community Development Fundraising Initiative for development projects.

He stressed that the celebration showcased the community’s rich culture, traditions, and unity, while thanking members, elders, and diaspora communities for their support.

He remembered community members lost in the year, seeking peace for their souls.

He noted that the event emphasised passing traditions to younger generations, and promoting values like hard work and respect.

The OWA President appreciated the Planning Committee’s efforts and thanked the Traditional Council and community elders for guidance.

HRH Oba Arogbonlo Micheal, the AjugbonJagun of Orokere Amuro, highlighted the community’s gratitude for guests’ presence despite national insecurity challenges.

The monarch thanked God for protection and acknowledged leaders like HRM Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, Obaro of Kabba; Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, Elulu of Mopa Land, and Alamuro of Amuro, Oba Alfred Aiyedogbon for their support.

The dignitaries, who spoke at the event, emphasised the need for community unity to enhance security, and urged the people to unite against all forms of criminality by giving timely and credible information to the security agencies.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Evan Kingsley Femi Fanwo, praised Orokere’s cultural significance and urged cooperation with security agencies to combat banditry.

“We must expose them anywhere we see them before they carry out their nefarious activities,” Fanwo said.

HRH Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, Elulu of Mopa, highlighted Mopamuro LGA’s safety, attributing it to traditional council unity and strategic security measures.

Mopamuro Local Government Chairman, Hon Ademola Bello, encouraged community unity and thanked God for security despite challenges.

Commodore Folusho Michael Daniel (rtd), the Asiwaju of Orokere Land, stressed that “security is everybody’s business,” advocating cooperation with state actors, intelligence gathering, and youth empowerment.

Pastor Joseph Adejola (a.k.a GB Irorun) linked insecurity to youth joblessness, urging community-led security initiatives.

The highlights of the event were the launching of the N100 million fund for community development projects, free medical services, cultural displays, award of recognition for excellent community service, and exhibition of local delicacies of Orokere community such as Paapa and Poopolo.

The celebration showcased the community’s rich culture, traditions, and unity. OWA remembered community members lost in the year, seeking peace for their souls.
