Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival Aims To Raise N300 Million For Celebration

The descendants of the historic city of Ogbomoso are preparing for an exciting season as the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, a homecoming event for all those connected to the city, is set to take place in December.

This week-long celebration aims to transform Ogbomoso, founded in the mid-17th century, into a vibrant tourist destination. As of 2024, the city has a population of approximately 655,517.

During a fundraising dinner in Lagos for the inaugural carnival, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi , Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, the paramount ruler of Ogbomosoland, emphasised the importance of uniting the sons and daughters of Ogbomoso from across Nigeria and beyond to work towards the city’s development

He noted that the people of Ogbomoso are renowned for their entrepreneurial spirit and warrior heritage, contributing to their presence in various cities, including Gombe, Jos, and Ore in Ondo State.

“Upon my ascension as the Soun of Ogbomoso, I was amazed to discover the widespread locations of our people. This insight led me to develop a blueprint for harnessing their potential and impacting our land,” he stated.

The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is envisioned to blend the rich cultural heritage of the region with its tourism potential, aligning with the Creative Economy blueprint.

Prince Williams Adeleye, chairman of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival Committee, shared that the committee is committed to organizing a vibrant and successful event.

“The promotion of our cultural heritage and tourism is a key aspect of the 25-year development agenda initiated by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III. This initiative aims to foster unity and stimulate economic growth within Ogbomosoland,” he explained.

The carnival seeks not only to celebrate Ogbomoso’s cultural wealth but also to position the city as an attractive destination for tourists and investors across various sectors, including agriculture, real estate, ICT, and manufacturing.

Since its formation in April, the committee has actively engaged with the community and received tremendous support from Ogbomoso’s descendants.

Prince Adeleye expressed gratitude for the support from the paramount ruler and urged attendees to contribute generously to ensure the success of this landmark event.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to His Imperial Majesty for his visionary leadership and for including you in this transformative journey. May Almighty God grant us the strength to realize the Ogbomoso of our dreams,” concluded Prince Adeleye.
