‘Life Got Better After Mohbad’s Death’, Says Father

Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that his life improved significantly after his son’s sudden death.

In an interview with media personality, Akin Abolade, known as Mrlilgaga, Aloba said, “Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he was my friend. He had it in plan to do many things for me, but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me.”

Aloba disclosed that the support he has received from Nigerians following his son’s passing has transformed his life. He added, “Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me, and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now.”

Reflecting on his son’s sudden death, Aloba mentioned challenges Mohbad faced during his lifetime, alleging that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and her family members played a significant role in controlling his late son’s properties. He said, “All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church, I forced him to buy and mould the blocks on it, which was later used to bury him.”

Aloba revealed that Mohbad had plans to purchase a house after completing his tour and had already paid for it in full before his death. He also narrated how Mohbad supported him when he was a child, starting as a backup singer at the age of one.

“The birth of Mohbad led me to become a singer after the money from the naming ceremony was stolen,” Aloba said. He described himself as a carpenter, singer, and pastor, though he currently does not have a church, which Mohbad had promised to build for him.

During the interview, Aloba showcased his new block industry, a truck, and a Toyota Highlander, all of which were gifts from compassionate Nigerians moved by his predicament after his son’s death.

Since Mohbad’s passing, Aloba revealed that he has released nine songs in tribute to his late son.

Mohbad died in Lagos on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26. His death was surrounded by controversy, including the arrest of a nurse, reported by Mohbad’s wife, who allegedly administered a tetanus vaccine to the singer. The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed that the nurse was unlicensed.
