The Lekki International Film Festival Limited has announce the publication of “Digital Scrapbook: Constructing Personal Stories in Public” by renowned media scholar and cultural critic, Kọle Odutọla.
In an era where personal narratives are often lost in the ephemeral scroll of social media, Odutọla has performed a bold act of “literary salvage.” By curating fifteen years of digital footprints—dating from 2010 to 2025—he has transformed a series of Facebook interactions, philosophical musings, and social commentaries into a permanent, print-ready “hybrid memoir.”
A Literary Collage of the Lagosian Soul Described by Professor Abiodun Adeniyi as a “literary collage,” the book serves as a “Diary of a Lagos Dude,” capturing the internal and external journeys of a Nigerian intellectual living in the diaspora. The text weaves together the rhythmic pulse of Lagos life with the analytical lens of a Senior Lecturer at the University of Florida.
“What you will find here is comparable to a raw data set from which intellectual judgements can be made,” says Odutọla. “It is an old-time family album, yet its snapshots are not merely visual; they are intellectual and emotional vignettes.”
There are key themes and highlights to take note of in the book.
The Intersection of Language: A celebration of the “Oju iwe” (Facebook) culture, exploring how the Yoruba and English languages collide and coexist in digital spaces.
Global-Local Perspectives: From the “Natchitoches saga” in America to the “Suya University” notes of Nigeria, the book offers a unique lens on the immigrant experience.

Chronicling a Decade: The entries provide a firsthand account of global and local shifts, including the 2012 “Year of the Killings,” the 2020 pandemic years, and looking forward to 2025.
Kọle Odutọla is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Florida with a PhD in Media Studies from Rutgers University.
A veteran of the Nigerian media landscape, his career spans television production, photography, and environmental advocacy. He is the author of several poetry collections and a frequent contributor to cultural dialogues across the African world.
