Actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo’s latest film, “Return of Arinzo,” has emerged as the highest-grossing movie of the Easter weekend at the Nigerian box office, grossing N104.8m in its opening weekend.
The film broke multiple records, including the highest Easter weekend performance and the biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel.
Ojo disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, revealing that the film grossed N104.8m in its opening weekend and broke multiple records.
“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with N104.8m, breaking multiple records in just one weekend.
“Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.
FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, attributed the success to strong audience connection and support across West Africa.

“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas, you made it a moment,” it stated.
“Return of Arinzo” is a sequel to the 2013 Yoruba blockbuster “Arinzo,” exploring themes of crime and personal transformation.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Funke Akindele, Mercy Aigbe, and William Benson.
The film’s success is notable given the intense competition in the Easter release window.
Its premiere in Lagos generated buzz, with a viral moment involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham sparking reactions on social media.
