British actor Idris Elba, now ‘Sir Idris Elba’, was among several public figures honoured at Windsor Castle on 2 June.
The 53-year-old actor, musician and activist was knighted by King Charles III for his work supporting young people. During the ceremony, the King formally conferred the honour as Elba knelt before him.
Elba was named in the King’s 2026 New Year Honours list. The recognition reflects his long-standing commitment to youth development, community projects and education.
In 2022, he launched the Elba Hope Foundation to support grassroots initiatives and sustainable development. He also previously received support from the The King’s Trust, which helped him attend the National Youth Music Theatre at the age of 18.
