Hollywood Icon Robert Redford Dies At 89

Legendary actor, director, and producer, Robert Redford has died at the age of 89.

According to US media reports, the Hollywood veteran passed away peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning at his home in Utah.

Redford’s longtime publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed the news in a statement, noting that he died at his residence in Sundance, surrounded by loved ones.

“He will be missed greatly,” Berger said, adding that the family is requesting privacy.

Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, Redford rose to global stardom after his breakthrough performance alongside Paul Newman in the 1969 Western classic ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’.

After two decades in front of the camera, Redford transitioned into directing, winning an Academy Award for Best Director and later co-founding the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival, a launchpad for independent filmmakers across the globe.

Beyond the film industry, Redford was also a passionate environmental activist, dedicating much of his life to protecting Utah’s landscapes and natural resources.

His six-decade career cemented him as one of Hollywood’s most influential figures, both on screen and behind the scenes.
