Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson Lead Nollywood’s Most Featured Box Office Stars Of 2025

by The Culture Newspaper January 18, 2026
Funke Akindele emerged as Nollywood’s most featured and commercially dominant star of 2025, following the massive success of Behind The Scenes, the highest-grossing Nigerian film of the year.

The movie earned an estimated ₦1.32 billion at the box office, with Akindele not only starring but also serving as producer and co-director, reinforcing her status as one of the industry’s most bankable figures.

Close behind was Timini Egbuson, whose visibility soared through his appearances in two major box office hits. He featured in Gingerrr, one of the year’s top-earning ensemble films, and Reel Love, a romantic drama he also produced. The strong commercial performance of both films placed Egbuson among the most prominent actors in Nigerian cinemas in 2025.

Wumi Toriola and Odunlade Adekola also recorded significant box office presence during the year. Toriola was a core cast member in Gingerrr, while Adekola appeared in both Gingerrr and the epic drama Labake Olododo, which grossed over ₦200 million. Iyabo Ojo featured prominently in Labake Olododo as both lead actress and producer, further cementing her relevance in commercially successful releases.

Other actors who benefited from the year’s box office boom include Lateef Adedimeji, Bisola Aiyeola and Bolaji Ogunmola, all of whom appeared in Gingerrr. Additionally, stars such as Scarlet Gomez, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Ini Dima-Okojie and Mr Macaroni contributed to the success of Behind The Scenes, while ensemble casts in films like Oversabi Aunty and Reel Love also enjoyed strong cinema outings.

Overall, 2025 was defined by the dominance of ensemble-driven productions and cross-genre storytelling, allowing both veteran stars and rising talents to share the spotlight. The year’s box office results underscored Nollywood’s growing commercial strength and the continued appeal of actors capable of drawing audiences across comedy, romance, drama and epic narratives.
