Fashion Week Returns After 10-Year Hiatus

A fashion week to celebrate local talent will go ahead 10 years since it last took place.

Hull and East Yorkshire Fashion Week was previously held a decade ago but is returning after calls from clothing designer Seguntuyi Onakoya for it to be resurrected.

The free opening event will showcase fashion designers, vintage sellers, skincare brands and accessory and wig makers.

Deputy leader of Hull City Council Jackie Dad said Fashion Week was “a fantastic opportunity for the creative people in our city to show their talent and skill”.

The event will begin with Hull Trade Fair at Trinity Market on Saturday from 10:00 until 15:00 BST.

Queen Victoria Square will also host a show called Theatre of Dreams on 5 June, showcasing a combination of fashion, music and dance.

Hull City Council said it planned to bring back Fashion Week annually.

The work of established designers will be showcased as well as designs from more than 100 East Riding College students.

Dad said the week would “raise the profile of makers in our region, combined with a strong educational focus at its heart”.
