CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ Hits 1bn Spotify Streams

Nigerian Afrobeats star CKay has entered Spotify’s exclusive “Billions Club” as his global hit “Love Nwantiti (ah ah ah)” has officially surpassed one billion streams on the platform.

This landmark achievement makes the song the first solo Nigerian song to reach this milestone and only the second Nigerian song overall to do so.

Released in 2019 on the EP “CKay The First,” the song went viral globally in 2021, largely fueled by its use in millions of TikTok videos.

CKay coined the term “Emo-Afrobeats” to describe its blend of African rhythms with heartfelt emotion.

It remains massively popular, with significant recent listening in the United States, India, Indonesia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

The song’s success is not confined to one platform. It is a certified global phenomenon with impressive accolades in the U.S.

It is the highest-selling Nigerian song, certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA (over 8 million units), putting it on the path to become Afrobeats’ first Diamond record.

Love Nwantiti has achieved multi-platinum or diamond status in multiple countries, including Diamond in France and 20x Platinum in India.

It peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200, and reached No. 1 on charts in India, Norway, and Switzerland.

CKay’s entry into the “Billions Club” placed him among a very select group of African artists. The trajectory of African hits reaching this milestone on Spotify showed the genre’s growing global dominance.

This achievement underscores the track’s role as a modern classic. It is more than a viral hit, but also a cultural reset and a blueprint for African artists seeking global reach.
