The Arojah Students Playwriting Prize has announced the 12-man longlist for the maiden edition of the prize.
A statement signed by the administrator of the Prize, Paul Liam, said the 12-man list was selected after a meticulous assessment by the Jury, which comprises the Head of Theatre and Performing Arts, Bayero University, Kano; Dr. Ola Ifatimehin; award winning playwright, literary critic and legal practitioner, Isaac Attah Ogezi; and Korea based playwright, scholar and communication expert, Okeke Izuchukwu Job.
According to the statement, a total of 57 entries were received from 19 Nigerian tertiary institutions and one foreign institution (University of Toronto).
A 5-man shortlist will be released on August 15 and three winners would be announced in October at a special award ceremony to be held in Abuja.
Similarly, a weekly play reading session would be organised for the shortlisted playwrights, to provide exposure and enable them engage with the literary community.
The Prize is supported by MacArthur Foundation and the Centre for Information and Technology Development (CITAD).
