Arojah Releases 12-man Longlist For Maiden Edition of Students Playwriting Prize

The Arojah Students Playwriting Prize has announced the 12-man longlist for the maiden edition of the prize.

A statement signed by the administrator of the Prize, Paul Liam, said the 12-man list was selected after a meticulous assessment by the Jury, which comprises the Head of Theatre and Performing Arts, Bayero University, Kano; Dr. Ola Ifatimehin; award winning playwright, literary critic and legal practitioner, Isaac Attah Ogezi; and Korea based playwright, scholar and communication expert, Okeke Izuchukwu Job.

According to the statement, a total of 57 entries were received from 19 Nigerian tertiary institutions and one foreign institution (University of Toronto).

A 5-man shortlist will be released on August 15 and three winners would be announced in October at a special award ceremony to be held in Abuja.

Similarly, a weekly play reading session would be organised for the shortlisted playwrights, to provide exposure and enable them engage with the literary community.

The Prize is supported by MacArthur Foundation and the Centre for Information and Technology Development (CITAD).

Here is the 2020 Arojah Students Playwriting Prize 12-man longlist:

1. Adekeye Lukman (University of Ibadan): The War Within

2. Aina Anuoluwapo (Kwara State University): Clothes and Naked Bodies

3. Anthony Echefunachukwu Ugwu (Alex Ekwueme University): The Odyssey of Hope

4. Arafat Oseni Aderonke (Bayero University, Kano): The Stench

5. Bayowa Ayomide (University of Toronto): Recyclable Chairs

6. Joko Precious (Michael Otedola College of Primary Education): The Game

7. Ojo Joshua Miracle (Obafemi Awolowo University): Justice: A Mirage

8. Ojo Olumide Emmanuel (ABU Zaria): Headless Sacrifice

9. Omowunmi Damilola Osuolale (Ekiti State University): A Tale Told by Idiots

10. Oyewole Anyina Oluwaseyi (Kwara State University): The Hidden Holes on our Crown
