The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations list has been released ahead of the ninth edition of the prestigious event slated for May 20, 2023.
Organisers, MultiChoice, in a televised announcement anchored by actors Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang, rolled out the list of nominations in various categories on the evening of Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed 2022 Netflix original film, ‘Anikulapo’, led the pack with 15 categories; followed by Jade Osiberu’s ‘Brotherhood’ which snagged 11 nominations.
Netflix Nigeria’s original series, ‘Shanty Town’, got the nod in 10 categories, including the Best Actress in a Drama category for two of its major characters, Ini Edo (Inem) and Nse Ikpe-Etim (Ene).
Funke Akindele’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and Femi Adebayo’s ‘King of Theives’ got 8 nominations each.
The annual event, which by tradition recognizes outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment, has added digital content creation throughout Nollywood and the entire African content to the list of nominations.
Twelve of the 33 categories will be decided by public voting while winners in the remaining categories will be decided by a panel of judges headed by Filmmaker, Femi Odugbemi.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations list has been released ahead of the ninth edition of the prestigious event slated for May 20, 2023.
Organisers, MultiChoice, in a televised announcement anchored by actors Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang, rolled out the list of nominations in various categories on the evening of Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed 2022 Netflix original film, ‘Anikulapo’, led the pack with 15 categories; followed by Jade Osiberu’s ‘Brotherhood’ which snagged 11 nominations.
Netflix Nigeria’s original series, ‘Shanty Town’, got the nod in 10 categories, including the Best Actress in a Drama category for two of its major characters, Ini Edo (Inem) and Nse Ikpe-Etim (Ene).
Funke Akindele’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and Femi Adebayo’s ‘King of Theives’ got 8 nominations each.
The annual event, which by tradition recognizes outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment, has added digital content creation throughout Nollywood and the entire African content to the list of nominations.
Twelve of the 33 categories will be decided by public voting while winners in the remaining categories will be decided by a panel of judges headed by Filmmaker, Femi Odugbemi.
