Always Check Official Sites For Visa Policies, US Mission Tells Applicants

Applicants seeking United States visas are being urged to rely only on official government sources for accurate and up-to-date information on travel requirements and application procedures.

The U.S. Department of State says visa rules, categories, and requirements are subject to regular updates and should be verified through its official website, travel.state.gov, which provides comprehensive guidance for both immigrant and non-immigrant visa applicants.

The portal contains details on application steps, required documentation, interview procedures, processing timelines, and country-specific eligibility requirements.

According to a post on its X handle on Monday, the mission was quoted as saying, “Make sure you are getting official information about U.S. visa policies. Please always check official sites for travel guidance. Visit http://travel.state.gov
to learn more. Please always check official sites for travel guidance.”

Officials say relying on unofficial sources can lead to misinformation, delays, or errors in the application process.

The notice also emphasised that visa policies may change due to administrative updates, security considerations, or diplomatic factors, making it important for applicants to regularly check official updates.

Applicants are also advised to confirm requirements with their nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate before submitting applications or planning travel.

The advisory aims to improve compliance, reduce errors, and ensure travelers follow the correct procedures when applying for U.S. visas.
