The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) provided free health screenings for Nollywood actors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of its 2026 annual “AGN Health Campaign and Walk for Life” held on Saturday in Abuja.
Participants received screenings for sugar levels, high blood pressure, malaria, hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, and eye conditions. Free glasses and medications were also administered by health officials.
Speaking on the sidelines, Salma Aminu, FCT Mayor of AGN, urged actors and other industry professionals to prioritise healthy lifestyles to prevent potential health issues.
“This initiative raises awareness for actors to take their health seriously. If we continue this annually, members will be encouraged to undergo regular checkups,” Aminu said.
She explained that the campaign includes health lectures and medical examinations, providing actors with the opportunity to monitor their wellbeing at least once a year. “We also have an HMO scheme to ensure members receive timely medical care,” she added.
Abubakar Yakubu, National President of AGN, highlighted the demands of filmmaking, noting that actors often have little time to maintain healthy lifestyles. He said the annual campaign is a proactive step to address health challenges in the industry.
“We are also introducing a sports club to encourage regular physical exercise. Actors must stay fit because some roles require high levels of physicality,” Yakubu said.
Drew Odoh, Director of Communication, AGN FCT, praised the initiative, acknowledging the resources required. “This shows the leadership’s commitment to the welfare of actors. It is an excellent opportunity for members to get proper health checks,” he said.
