South African singer Tyla has acknowledged the role of Afrobeats after securing the Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, Best R&B titles at the 2024 MTV EMAs.

She surpassed notable competitors, including Ayra Starr, DBN Gogo, Diamond Platnumz, and TitoM & Yuppe.

During her acceptance speech, Tyla praised Afrobeats, saying, “Thank you to Afrobeats, it has opened many doors for African music.”

This nod to Afrobeats comes after her 2024 VMAs win, where she highlighted her Amapiano roots for her hit single “Water,” which also has Afrobeats influences.

Tyla’s beat prominent Nigerian artists like Asake, Rema, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Tems at both VMAs and EMAs awards ceremony.
