Application for this year’s Producers’ Lab Pitch at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2023 is now open.
The initiative, a collaboration between NEWF and AFRIFF seeks to choose three fellows from West Africa..
Organisers say if you’ve ever thought of producing a nature, wildlife or conservation film; passionate about environmental topics, wildlife or climate change, then the pitch will be of interest to you.
“The world consumes so much of Africa’s wildlife and natural history yet African nature and wildlife filmmakers are rarer than some of the species conservationists seek to protect.
“The time is now to share the natural world, conservation, climate change, resilience and environmental stories of West Africa,” a statement from the organisers reads in part.
Organisers say the applications are open to West African early career and emerging storytellers.
“The AFRIFF Edition will accept up to three fellows into the 2024 NEWF Producers’ Lab Fellowship Programme.
“Each selected Fellow will receive a ZAR 75 000 (approx. USD 4500) grant to produce an 8-minute documentary short film exploring themes of nature, wildlife, environmental challenges or success stories, conservation and/or climate change & resilience.
“The accepted Fellows will join an Africa wide community of storytellers, scientists and conservationists,” the statement added.
Deadline for the fellowship application, which is open to only West African citizens, is October 26, 2023.
