Award-winning director and indie filmmaker, Imoh Umoren’s The Herbert Macaulay Affair will premiere on October 25.
Umoren explained that the film was inspired by his research when he wrote the Nigeria at 100 documentary.
“As we delved in, I realised there were so many parts of our history that we did not touch. For me, I choose to make the story about him to remind Nigerians that we as a people had never stood for tyranny. We spoke in one voice and overcame oppression together,”he said.
The film, which is set in the 1920s, follows the life and struggles of the ‘Father of Nigerian Nationalism’, Herbert Macaulay, who upon his return after an educational sojourn in England, is faced with racial discrimination and rebels against the authorities. In his quest for equality, he falls in love with Caroline Pratt whose father is a police officer of Her Royal Majesty.
The movie stars Herbert Macaulay’s grandson, Wale Macaulay, William Benson, Saheed Balogun, Tonia Chukwurah, Kelechi Udegbe, Martha Ehinome Orhiere, Tubosun Ayedun, Sunday Afolabi, Mary Kowo, Phillip Jarman, Stanley Matthews, Obiora Maduegbuna, and Lolo Eremie.
