Love is in the air and today’s Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love and affection between friends, lovers, spouses and family members.

For lovers, friends, and the singles who would love to plan a cute or lovey-dovey hangout or watch party this Valentine, get ready to grab your popcorn and snuggle up to capture the hearts of your loved ones with a lineup of movies and shows coming your way this week.

From epic romances like Titanic to hilarious friendly comedies and gripping thrillers, there’s something for everyone. So, dim the lights, silence your phones (maybe), and prepare to be entertained.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store:

Titanic

The year was 1997, when the world was swept away by this cinematic masterpiece. James Cameron, a visionary director known for his technical prowess, brought to life the tragic tale of the RMS Titanic. More than just a historical disaster film, Titanic is an epic love story. It weaves together the lives of Jack Dawson, a penniless artist portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, and Rose DeWitt Bukater, a young woman trapped in a gilded cage of wealth and societal expectations, played by Kate Winslet.

Titanic wasn’t just a blockbuster; it was a record-breaking, award-winning triumph. It held the title of the highest-grossing film of all time for 12 years and garnered 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Beyond the spectacle and the romance, and the film explores themes of class, fate, and it’s a perfect movie to cozy up with your loved one and be swept away by a story that’s both tragic and beautiful. Don’t miss it on DStv Movie Room, Channel 113 on February 16 at 8 pm WAT.

Industry

The sleek, glass towers of London’s financial district serve as the battleground for Industry, a gripping drama series that pulls back the curtain on the cutthroat world of investment banking. This isn’t your typical Wall Street glamour; Industry is more about the gritty realities faced by a group of ambitious graduates vying for a coveted spot at Pierpoint & Co. Myha’la Herrold, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, David Jonsson, and Conor MacNeill deliver compelling performances as these young professionals navigate the treacherous landscape of high-stake deals, demanding bosses, and their demons.

The series doesn’t shy away from the darker aspects of the banking world, exploring themes of power, and ambition and it is a perfect watch with friends this Valentine season. It is worth a watch on DStv M-Net 101 on Friday 14 at midnight WAT.

The Fabulous Four

Palm Springs, a desert oasis known for its sunshine and laid-back vibe, becomes the backdrop for a hilarious and heartwarming adventure in The Fabulous Four. This comedy movie brings together an iconic quartet of actresses – Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, and Kathy Bates – as four lifelong friends who embark on a wild and unexpected journey.

Their escapades are sure to be filled with laughter, camaraderie, and perhaps a touch of mischief. The film promises a delightful blend of humour and heart, celebrating the enduring bonds of friendship and the joys of getting older without taking yourself too seriously.

With a cast of comic powerhouses, The Fabulous Four is a feel-good movie experience. The movie’s focus on female friendship and its celebration of aging gracefully are refreshing and relatable. You can expect plenty of laughs, and heartwarming moments on DStv M-Net 101 on February 16 at 9 pm WAT.

She Came For Me

In the spirit of love, I present to you Anne Hathaway and Peter Dinklage. Two of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, reunite in She Came For Me, a romantic comedy that explores the complexities of second chances.

In She Came to Me, Anne Hathaway plays Patricia Jessup-Lauddem. Patricia is a therapist and the wife of opera composer Steven Lauddem (played by Peter Dinklage). She’s portrayed as a woman who is very organised and controlled, bordering on obsessive-compulsive.

Their union stirs up old feelings and creates new challenges, leading to a series of hilarious and heartwarming situations that make for an interesting watch.

No doubt, it’s sure to deliver plenty of laughs and feel-good moments as DStv offers its subscribers a Step Up offer that allows everyone get an upgrade! Catch it on M-Net 101 this Valentine’s Day at 10 pm WAT.

Jaane Jaan

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma, and Jaideep Ahlawat in a movie?! It is about to be a heavy dose of suspense and action from the Bollywood stars. Jaane Jaan is a Hindi-language thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A woman finds herself entangled in a crime, she must use all her cunning and intelligence to outwit the investigators. The film is a remake of the Japanese novel “The Devotion of Suspect X,” a story known for its intricate plot twists and suspenseful narrative.

Does this mean it is a blend of Japanese and Indian culture? Jaane Jaan is a must-watch for every Bollywood fan. The film will premiere on DStv Starlife Channel 167 on February 16 at 2 pm WAT.

Alex From Oil and Gas

Alex From Oil and Gas is a three-part series about sisters and best friends, Tamara (34) and Tonye (31). After a divorce, Tamara moves in with Tonye and discovers her online dating addiction. Ignoring Tamara’s catfishing warnings, Tonye falls for the fictitious Alex, who works in oil and gas.

As the relationship intensifies, Tonye distances herself, prompting Tamara to investigate Alex. Her search uncovers not only Alex’s secrets, but also Tonye’s lies, entangling Tamara in the deception.

Starring Scarlet Gomez, Detola Jones, Obinna Okenwa, Okey Uzoeshi, and Shamz Garuba, with Uche Ikejimba as showrunner, it airs on Africa Magic Showcase, February 12-14, 2025, at 9 pm.

Love Island All Stars

Love Island is back, and this time, it’s bringing back some familiar faces! Love Island All Stars reunites fan-favorite contestants from previous seasons for a second chance at love.

The drama, the romance, and the challenges are all amplified as these seasoned Islanders return to the villa, ready to find their perfect match. Viewers will get to catch up with their beloved Islanders, see how their lives have changed, and witness new romances blossom (or old flames rekindle) under the sun.

Love Island All Stars offers viewers a double dose of the addictive reality TV they love. Expect plenty of drama, unexpected twists, and, of course, the sizzling chemistry that makes Love Island such a guilty pleasure. The show will be available on Showmax on February 14, 2025.
