10 Best Beaches That Serve As Tourist Attractions In Lagos

by The Culture Newspaper September 5, 2025
by The Culture Newspaper September 5, 2025

Lagos has a very beautiful coastline stretching over several kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean and has some of the finest and most beautiful beaches in Africa. In ancient times, the beaches were just places for locals to fish, relax, or worship deities. With the passing of time, people from all over the world started to discover the beauty of these shores and tourism started to pick up.

Today, the beaches in Lagos have undergone a major transformation. They now offer plenty of fun activities from water sports to beach parties and more. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful beach to relax or a vibrant beach for an action-packed vacation, Lagos has a beach for you. These, however, are some of the best beaches in the state and they are worth visiting on your next visit.

10. Tarkwa Bay Beach
Located in Lagos, Tarkwa Bay beach is a hidden gem that boasts crystal-clear waters and pristine white sand. Ideal for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy Lagos city, this beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.

9. Eleko Beach
Eleko Beach has a beautiful stretch of dunes and is located just 30 minutes from Victoria Island, Lagos. It is a popular spot for picnics, barbecues, and outdoor activities. With its pristine waters and lush vegetation, this beach is sure to make you feel like you’ve stepped into paradise.

8. Ilashe Beach
This beach is a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Lagos and is perfect for those who want to relax and unwind. With its clear waters, lush vegetation, and traditional fishing villages, this beach offers a unique cultural experience that you won’t find anywhere else in Nigeria.

7. Badagry Beach
Located on the outskirts of Badagry town, Lagos, Badagry beach is a great option for those who want to escape the crowds of Lagos city and enjoy some peace and quietness. With its clear waters, stunning views, and rich history, this beach is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Lagos, Nigeria.

6. Bar Beach
This iconic beach is located on Victoria Island, Lagos, and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. With its vibrant atmosphere, stunning views, and excellent facilities, this beach like Tarkwa Bay Beach is perfect for you if you want to have some fun in the sun.

5. Victoria Beach
Victoria Beach is another popular beach in Lagos State and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. With its stunning views, excellent facilities, and vibrant atmosphere, this beach is perfect for those who want to soak up the sun and enjoy the best of what Lagos state has to offer.

4. Epe Beach
Epe beach, like Eleko Beach, is a beautiful beach located just 30 minutes from Victoria Island, Lagos. It is one of the most popular spots in Lagos for picnics, barbecues, and outdoor activities. With its crystal-clear waters and beautiful vegetation, this beach is sure to make you feel like you’re in paradise.

3. Lekki Beach

Lekki Beach is a stunning beach located in Lekki, Lagos State, and is a popular destination for people who want to experience the beauty of the Nigerian coastline. With its clear waters, pristine white sand, and excellent facilities, this beach is perfect for you if you are looking for a place to relax, unwind, and escape the hardly avoidable stress of Lagos city.

2. Akodo Beach
Located in Lekki, Lagos, Akodo Beach is a must-visit for anyone living in Lagos, other states in Nigeria, or someone visiting Nigeria. It is a world-class beach with an amazing view and state-of-the-art facilities to make your stay worthwhile. However, given its location (Lekki), things could be a bit pricey. So, when visiting go along with extra funds to avoid finance getting in the way of your fun and recreation.

1. Oniru Private Beach
So far, I’ve discussed public beaches. Does it mean that Lagos doesn’t have private beaches? The answer is Lagos has private beaches and one of them is Oniru Private Beach. Oniru Private Beach is a privately own owned beach in Lagos, Nigeria managed and maintained by the Oniru Royal family.

There are 2 ways to access this beach depending on where you’re coming in from. If you are coming in from Lagos Island, it will take you a 20 to 40 minutes drive to get to the beach from the end of Ligali Ayorinde Street. However, entering from Lekki Phase 1 will take you just 5 minutes to drive before you reach the beach.

Like its counterparts in Lagos, this beach is usually neat and quiet in the morning and afternoon but when evening comes the place gets crowded with visitors and becomes rowdy. The beach mostly experiences its peak of activities on weekends.
