The Qatar Foundation will open the Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum on 28 November in Qatar’s Education City, a cultural campus near Doha.
The museum is the first institution dedicated to the life and work of the renowned Indian modernist painter and filmmaker Maqbool Fida Husain.
The 3,000sqm museum, whose design is based on a 2008 sketch by Husain, will house a permanent collection comprising paintings, films, tapestry, photography, poetry and installations and will be ‘presented through multimedia storytelling.’
‘Maqbool Fida Husain was one of the world’s most legendary modernists, an artist whose vision emerged from and resonated across different cultures, including here in Qatar, where he lived and practiced during his life,’ said Kholoud M. Al-Ali, executive director of community engagement and programming at the Qatar Foundation.
‘It is an honor to present his work within a dedicated museum of this scale – a space where audiences can engage deeply with his life, his art, and his enduring global legacy.’
