Popular Nollywood actress, Plus-Size advocate and brand influencer, Monalisa Ayobami Stephen, has died after health complications related to low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

The 33-year-old, known for her outspoken views on body image and mental health, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos State, according to a family source.

Entertainment executive and CEO of Best of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi, confirmed the news on Wednesday via a post on his Instagram page, describing her as ‘hardworking and beautiful soul’.

“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” Oloketuyi wrote.

Monalisa Stephen gained prominence for using her platform to address issues related to self-love, body positivity, and mental health, often sparking debates with her candid remarks.

In April 2023, she made headlines after revealing in a controversial interview that her then-boyfriend performed oral sex on her while she was menstruating.

She remained resolute in her advocacy, urging plus-sized women to embrace self-confidence and “live their truth.”

At the time of filing this report, the family was yet to release an official statement, but tributes continued to pour in from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
