The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted its suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar.
Recall that, in October 2024, AGN suspended Abubakar indefinitely after she was accused of defaming other actors and well-known Nigerians.
After a two-year investigation, a disciplinary panel found her responsible and banned her from all guild activities and film projects.
On Thursday, the guild announced that it had lifted her suspension.
Emeka Rollas, the outgoing National President of AGN, shared the news during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council at the AGN headquarters in Abuja.
Rollas said, “Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations, and we suspended her from all acting and all AGN activities.
“However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that.
“Therefore today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension.”
Rollas, whose second and final tenure ended in December 2025, formally handed over to Abubakar Yakubu, the new national president.
In addition to Abubakar, Rollas announced the lifting of suspensions for four other members of the Enugu State chapter of the guild: Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem, and Jeff Okwute.
“There were persons that we have suspended according to the AGN law, and because I’m leaving office, I don’t want to leave them suspended,” he stated.
The action by the guild is coming days after Abubakar, the Nollywood actress who has been unwell asked the public for help after her landlady evicted her, even though she was prepared to renew her rent.
In a live TikTok video, Halima disclosed that she was evicted even after offering to pay her rent again. She also talked about her ongoing health problems, which she has shared with her followers in recent months.
She said, ‘’I have been evicted from my house. All the money people have been sending to me for my brain tumour, I took out of it to pay the house rent but my landlady said she didn’t want the money. She doesn’t want me in her house. What is my offence? I don’t want to k!ll myself. I can’t be homeless when I have money. No celebrity wants to help me.”
