Grimsby’s Grim And Havelock Statue To Go On Show

A recently restored statue of the legendary founder of Grimsby will go on display next month.

The statue of Grim and Havelock was restored by retired Lincolnshire businessman Will Hennessy.

The Fishing Heritage centre said the statue will be returned to public view on 4 June.

The 50-year-old statue depicts the legendary story of Grim rescuing a young prince Havelock.

It stood outside Grimsby College for 33 years until it was removed in 2006 because of vandalism.

The damaged Douglas Wain-Hobson artwork went on show last year at the Turntable Gallery in Grimsby and was then taken away to be restored.

The Equality Practice in North East Lincolnshire has a display about Grim and Havelock at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre and the statue will be added to it.

A new permanent home has been found for the statue but is still to be announced.
