Blaqbonez Under Fire For Claiming Superiority Over Asake

by The Culture Newspaper December 5, 2024
Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, also known as Blaqbonez, has sparked outrage by stating that he is 50 times bigger than Grammy-nominated singer Asake.

The claim appeared on social media after a 2019 tweet from Asake resurfaced, showing him, then an up-and-coming rapper, asking Blaqbonez for a follow-back.

An X user with the handle @thejacobsss reignited the debate by suggesting it was “hilarious” to rank Asake higher than Blaqbonez.

“Asake is big, but saying he’s bigger than Blaqbonez is pure comedy walai,” the fan wrote.

Blaqbonez supported the sentiment, responding, “Like people are funny. I’m 50x bigger. I sold out the O2 Arena in 1 minute; it took him longer.”

However, fact-checkers and fans quickly identified contradictions in the rapper’s explanation.

Blaqbonez claimed to have sold out the O2 Arena, although records show that he has never headlined nor sold out the legendary arena. Asake, on the other hand, has sold out the O2 Arena twice, an accomplishment well appreciated in the music industry.
